NOTICE OF THE SOCIETY’S GENERAL ELECTIONS, 2024 AND A CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Dear members,

Greetings from the Electoral Committee of the Tanganyika Law Society!

Please be informed that the Society’s General Elections of the Governing Council members, Representatives in the Council for Legal Education, Trustees of the DATF (5 Trustees), Trustees of the WAKILI TRUST (5 Trustees), Zonal Leaders and Association of Young  Lawyers Leader will be held in Dodoma from Wednesday, 31^st July through to Friday, 02^nd August, 2024 .

Kindly be informed that, due to recent amendments in the Tanganyika Law Society Act Cap. 307 as amended (Section 15(3) (d) and 15(5) Society General Elections will be conducted in accordance with TLS Act Cap.307 as amended and the Tanganyika Law Society (Elections) Regulations, GN 598 of 2022.

Tanganyika Law Society (Elections) Regulations, GN 598 of 2022 will be used to regulate the 2024 elections process and procedures as far as they are not inconsistence with the Tanganyika Law Society Act Cap 307 as amended.

Please find attached Notice of the Society’s General Elections and Call for Nominations, Nomination Forms,  the Tanganyika Law Society ( Elections) Regulations GN 598 of 2022 and  the Legal Sector Laws ( Miscellaneous Amendments) Act, 2023 (Act No.11 of 2023) for your further action.

Kindly note that the deadline for receiving nominations will be on Tuesday, 28^nd May,2024 at 5.00PM.

Nomination and CV in respect of all elective positions should reach the Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Nelson Frank at the TLS office located at Chato Street, Plot No.21, Regent Estate, Dar es Salaam, or through email address: nfrank@tls.or.tz  copy to  info@tls.or.tz not later than 5:00pm on Tuesday, 28^th May, 2024. Each person presenting a Nomination Form shall obtain Receipt from TLS to signify that he or she has lodged the Nomination Form at the TLS Secretariat on the date shown in the Receipt.  

Candidates and their supporters shall refrain from embarking on campaigning until the Committee announces the campaign commencement date.
