CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS IN THE AWARENESS PROGRAM ON GENDER MAINSTREAMING IN THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK THAT IMPACTS FEMALE ARTISTS.

Kindly be informed that Tanzania Artists Rights Organization (TARO) is coordinating the awareness program under a partnership with Culture Development East Africa (CDEA). The main objective of the program is to prepare recommendations for improving policy and legal framework in the arts and cultural sector in Tanzania, whereas TARO focuses on the legal component while CDEA deals with policy.
Tanzania Artists Rights Organization (TARO) is a non-governmental organization that advocates for the rights and interests of artists and their works. TARO serves as both a human rights and a cultural rights defender for artists. It engages to contribute to the development of the Tanzanian arts and cultural sector by focusing on the promotion of artistic freedom of expression, artists’ rights and interests, professionalism, and gender equality. The organization achieves this through advocacy, awareness campaigns, monitoring, and reporting on artistic freedom in Tanzania.
With this email, kindly be informed that TARO is requesting to have a meeting between Art Feminists and TLS members who are interested in the creative industry and art Feminism.
TARO will conduct two meetings whereby each meeting will comprise 15 participants from TLS. The main agenda of both meetings is “Mainstreaming gender in a legal framework that impacts female artists”.
The meetings are scheduled as follows;
On 20th July 2023, participants will specifically discuss the composition of decision-making bodies established by the laws in the arts and cultural sector in relation to gender mainstreaming.
On 25th July 2023, the discussion will focus on the enjoyment of cultural rights for female artists and the laws in the arts and cultural sector. It will involve a wider discussion to include each aspect that undermines the enjoyment of cultural rights on the ground of gender.

Kindly take note that slots are limited, only 30 members from TLS are invited and the modality of registration will be on first in first served basis.
