Tanganyika Law Society has partnered with UNICEF Tanzania in running a special project on Children in Conflict with the Law styled as Legal Assistance Programme for children in conflict with the law. The Project will run for the period of two years starting from November, 2014 to 2016 October in Mbeya Region. The Project has four objectives which are;-

  1. To ensure that children’s rights and due processes are guaranteed and respected throughout the criminal justice process.
  2. To increase accessibility and improve quality of legal aid to CICL by building the capacity of legal aid providers to deliver the model effectively.
  3. To ensure that children are deprived of their liberty as a matter of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time.
  4. To expedite children’s cases including reducing the time between charge and sentencing, increase the number of dismissals and acquittals, and reduce the use and length of pre and post-trial detention.

The Total Project Budget is TZS 394,276,620 (235,249USD) whereas funds requested from UNICEF amounts to TZS 322,896,040 (192,659 USD).
