ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION FEES PAYMENT VERSUS CLE REGULATIONS
This is a gentle reminder that you are required to have minimum of 10 CLE Points to qualify for renewal of practicing certificate for the year 2016 as provided under Regulation 26, 31 and 32 of the CLE Regulations, 2012 save for those who are exempted under Reg. 27 of the said Regulations. However, those who were admitted in July, 2015 are required to have only 5 points to qualify for renewal of their Practicing certificates.
PAYMENT OF ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION FEES FOR THE YEAR 2016
Please note that receipts for each payment i.e. TLS Annual Subscription, EALS Annual Subscription, LAAC Contribution and DATF Contribution will be issued at the TLS office against Original pay- in slips, swift copies or cheques. You will then be required to submit the receipts you obtained from the TLS, together with the exchequer receipt obtained from judiciary for payment of judiciary annual fee, to the Advocates office located at the High Court of Tanzania-Main Registry for renewal of your Practicing certificate.
However, for your convenience, we would be delighted to assist you to renew your practicing certificate through your Chapter convener if you submit the following documents to your respective chapter convener;
• Bank Slips for payment of Tanganyika Law Society fees
• Bank slips for payment of judiciary fee. Please see attached document having payment details for judicial fees
• Your notary document
• Filled declaration form. See attached form
• Your business licence
Please note further that your documents will only be accepted if you comply with the CLE Regulations. Chapter conveners will send us your documents and we shall then send your Notary documents to the High Court for renewal. Once done, we shall inform you to collect your Practicing Certificate and ID to your respective chapter convener / chapter office.
Those with less than 10 CLE Points should communicate to the TLS Head office via email or letter, before submitting their deposit slip in their respective chapter, for further directives.
DEADLINE FOR PAYMENT OF ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION FEES FOR THE YEAR 2016
You are further reminded that, as per section 10 of TLS Act, CAP 307 and SS. 34-36 and 38 of the Advocates Act, CAP 341, you are required to pay Annual Subscription fees for the year 2016 up to First day of February, 2016. However, advocates who failed to pay their fees by first day of February will be allowed to make payment up to the end of June but their practicing certificate shall take effect on the day on which it is issued by the Registrar.
After the end of June, advocates who default in making payment will be required by law to apply to the Chief Justice to renew practicing certificate out of time explaining the reasons for failure to comply with the law. Prior to the said application, they will be required to give to the registrar, at least six weeks before the said application, notice of their intention to make such application. It should further be noted that, Renewal may be granted at the discretion of the Chief Justice.
Otherwise, if any advocate wishes to suspend practice for the year 2016, he / she should apply to the Chief Justice for suspension stating the reasons for such application. The application should be in writing with a copy to the TLS President.
